چکیده
Neo-Victorian narratives of trauma display a temporal duplicity in addressing nineteenthcentury traumas that still prevail at present, including natural catastrophes, wars, or more personal and insidious traumas, such as domestic violence oppression, child sexual abuse. In this article, I argue Guillermo del Toro’s neo-Victorian film Crimson Peak (2015) is constructed narrative exploits the trope «the uncanny» (Freud 1919) its main representations –i.e. double, return dead repetition compulsion– to address traumatic experience gender impact on both Victorian contemporary women. Furthermore, contend functions symbolical space where audience can bear witness reflect multitemporal violence. That way, viewers develop empathy towards survivors experience.
